The number of calories your body needs to maintain basic life functions at rest.
BMR is the minimum number of calories required to sustain essential physiological functions (breathing, circulation, cell production, temperature regulation) while at complete rest. It accounts for 60-75% of total daily energy expenditure. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is commonly used: for men, BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) - 5 × age + 5; for women, BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) - 5 × age - 161. BMR decreases with age at about 1-2% per decade after age 20.
Men: BMR = 10W + 6.25H - 5A + 5 | Women: BMR = 10W + 6.25H - 5A - 161Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) and know your weight category. Free BMI calculator with metric and imperial units.
